Tuesday night, Sep. 7 was a tough battle against the Coronado Thunderbirds in a key district volleyball match
Hanks was on the wrong side of a two games to nothing deficit going in to the third game. The final game was hard fought but, unfortunately, ending in a loss. Coronado won all three games by scores of 25-12, 25-18, and 25-19. In the first game, many windows of opportunity were seemingly closed by the relentless defense of the Thunderbirds.
Even though this was a tough loss the Lady Knights are looking forward and preparing for their next match, Americas Trailblazers, on Friday at Americas High School.
The lady Knights suffered a disappointing loss for the second time in a row. In the second game, they worked at their mistakes made in their first game as it was a back-and-forth melee with some intense moments where the girls seemed to rally around good leadership.
Down 2-0 they had pressure on them going into the third game. Senior Clare Rodarte pushed her team to work hard and keep their chins up. As the team captain, she led by example with many good sets, digs and assists.
Coronado won’t be the only opponent to give the Knights a run for their money. Even though the wins aren’t piling up, the girls seem to be preparing for the challenge and are improving after every game. Many mistakes were made but they will presumably be dealt with on account of coach Louis Sackett’s attention to detail.
Also putting forth the effort, senior Angela Mills had many digs and pancakes which helped the defense in the back while the hitters were working their arms on offense at the net.
