The Dallas Mavericks will be visiting the White House on Jan. 9, without one of their players.
Each of the 2011 champions will be awarded a meeting with President Barack Obama, along with new editions to the 2011-12 Mavs outfit.
The player Delonte West, was told he would no be able to attend due to previous criminal charges.
West, who had a high profile arrest over two years ago while under the influence of prescribed medication, was “banned” from stepping foot in the White House after the President’s security team ran a routine background check on the guard.
“I’m banned from going to the White House, so I’m not going to make it,” West said in an interview with abc.com, after Sunday’s 96-81 win over the New Orleans Hornets. “But I’m going home to D.C., I’m just not allowed to go to the White House. That’s what happens when you make bad decisions in your life. You can’t go to the White House.”
West, who was born in D.C., expressed some unappreciated comments while asked if he was upset about not being able to go.
“I’ve been there hundreds of times in my lifetime,” said West. “I live right around the corner. I live in D.C. It’s going to be ashamed the President isn’t going to get a chance to meet me. I’m the president of my house.”
The next Mavs game will be against the Detroit Pistons on Jan. 10.
