In El Paso there are so many organizations who help people in need; from homeless people, to those who are unemployed. For those that have pets, there is a new organization to help them out.
Ben’s Pet Pantry is a organization that Joise Gonzalez started for animals in need. The organization was founded when she encountered a dog by the name of Ben who was left to die. She then realized that there was no organization to help owners feed their pets. From that idea grew Ben’s Pet Pantry. Since it is a non-profit organization, basic pet needs are needed, such as food. The main purpose for this organization is to allow owners to keep their pets, without having to give them up.
The Hanks Interact club decided to get involved and help Ben’s Pet Pantry.
“When I heard about this I thought it was something good to do for animals,” said senior Angelica Rubio. ”It really touched my heart, and I thought it would be a good idea to try and get the whole school involved. ”
On Jan 31, Gonzalez came to Hanks, and spoke to the Interact officers about the project what she needed the most.
“I just really hope that people get involved and helps us out,” said Interact president Alex Lopez. ”Not only is it for a good cause but you also get community service hours as well, which is something that everyone needs.”
