Many people are close to other humans, while others are closer to animals.
In a recent study by the New York daily news, 14 percent of people surveyed stated that they would rather choose their pet over their spouse.
“My dog is very protective of me,” said junior Ashley Robles. “Even though I’m not married or anything, I still feel closer to my dog than with my family members.”
Although Robles does not have a spouse, she tends to feel more closure from her basset hound. She believes that her dog is a great listener and has always been there for her.
“I just love them,” said junior Adriana Lopez. “My cats are always there for me and they love me unconditionally. I don’t have to deal with their criticism as opposed to people.”
Lopez believes that her pet cats are understand her better than people who surround her. She can go home and not feel judged by her pets. She only receives love from them which is what most people desire, to be loved.
In comparison to Robles, Lopez feels the same about her pets, which shows that she does not stand alone. Although they are different species, just a pet in general can easily give more comfort to humans rather than people.
Pets have the ability to share their inner feelings with people if people are there for them as well and allow them to express their feelings. No one likes to be neglected, so pets would not like it either. Give them full attention and they will most likely return the favor.
The owners of pets have more of a connection with their pet rather than a loved one, which explains why they would choose their pet over people they interact with. Pets have more love to offer.
