Siblings Andrea and Michael Abeyta had an outstanding cross country season. With many seeing them as a great duo and also a great family, Andrea, a junior, and Michael, a freshman, were both selected to El Paso Times All City 2016 Cross Country team
In November 2016, Michael was named to the 5A-All State team by placing sixth place at the state meet. He beat his personal record at state by running the 5,000 meter run in 15:34. Andrea also qualified and competed in the cross country state meet.
"It feels amazing to be running with the best of the best," said Michael. "Its such an honor and I feel so grateful to be a part of this team."
In the beginning of the season, Andrea held the record for the second fastest time in the city which was an 18:53.20.
According to The El Paso Times, she was ranked as the number three top cross country runner in the city of El Paso.
"I am very blessed to receive the honor of being in All City." said Andrea. "I work hard everyday to be the best that I can be and to see that my name is in the paper is a humbling reward. My season started off a bit rough, but I continued to work hard, and with the help of my coaches, I finished off the season at state. I look forward to the upcoming track season that is yet to come."
Both Michael and Andrea have much to look forward to in the upcoming track season that they both will compete in and will be sure to break more records for the Hanks Varsity Track Team.
